Climate Write in and Creation Care Service at St Johns Menston

Within their normal Sunday worship, St John’s, Menston, near Leeds, held a service about the care of God’s creation. They looked at how the challenges of climate change are like ‘moving mountains’  (Matthew 17v20) and used some wonderful creation liturgy. The youngest member of the congregation built a tower to illustrate how with commitment and patience we can indeed move mountains. They used the Hope for the Future moto – Prayer Practice Politics. After the service people gathered to talk about how they might encourage one another to pray more for creation, how they themselves might reduce their foot print on the earth and together they wrote letters to our local politicians, telling them how important tackling climate change is to them. One member of the congregation commented “It was fun, it was not hard and it is something every church can do.”
